Mental Health Is Very Important

Hispanics/Latinx communities have the same incidence of mental illness compared to the rest of the world's population. However, the concerns, experiences and way of understanding and dealing with them may be different.

The most common mental health conditions in the Hispanic/Latinx community are:

  • Generalized Anxiety Disorder

  • Schizophrenia

  • Major Depression

  • Post-traumatic Stress Disorder

  • Bipolar Disorder

Other problems associated with mental health conditions are:

  • Suicide risk

    • Girls attending middle and high school have a high percentage of attempted suicide.

  • Dual Diagnosis

Despite the fact that the Hispanic/Latinx community shows a similar predisposition to mental health conditions, when compared to the rest of the population, unfortunately, there are discrepancies in access to treatment and in the quality of treatment they receive. This inequality exposes Hispanics/Latinx members to a higher risk of having a mental health condition or crisis episode. As a community, Hispanics/Latinx members are less likely to seek psychiatric counseling or treatment for their mental health, especially the stigma there is surrounding mental health.

Let’s start by making the change that previous generations before us were unable to do!

Cómo Las Condiciones De Salud Mental Afectan A La Comunidad Hispana/Latinx Serie: Parte 1
